Our Approach

Our Approach

"Mighty oaks from little acorns grow"

Acorns are tiny little shells full of potential. They are hard on the outside, and protect inside a magnificent life force energy that, in the right conditions, can grow into one of the biggest and strongest trees on the planet.

We are all like acorns, carrying within us inner wisdom and inherent knowledge to grow into the strong, confident and integrated beings we were meant to be. Given the right conditions, little acorns break free from their shells and begin to flourish. For children and youth, these conditions include a strong sense of self, which is accepted and validated by their loved ones, as well as a strong foundation of family attachment, understanding, and support.

I am honoured to be a part of that support for the individuals and families I work with, by helping people realize their inner wisdom and potential, and by helping strengthen their foundations.

“Treat people as if they were what they ought to be and you help them become what they are capable of being." - Dan Siegel

Our Approach is...

Evidence-Informed

We use well researched therapy modalities that are proven to work

Client-Centred

The young person as well as the family relationship is considered the “client.” You set the goals of treatment, and we work together to achieve those goals

Non-Judgemental

We provide a safe, comfortable space to explore your inner world, believing in the worth and dignity of every person

Strength-Based

Every person and family has strengths and resilience, despite the challenges faced

What to Expect...

We offer a free 20-minute phone consultation to determine if we would be a good fit for you, and if you feel that this is the case, we would book an initial assessment. Typically, initial assessments are two separate sessions: one for the parents, and one for the young person later joined with parents. Assessments begin with parents on their own to be able to discuss freely what the challenges and concerns are, gather family history, psycho-social history, discuss development, previous interventions, other supports involved, and to get a sense of what the goals of the parents/caregivers are. In the second session, the child or youth will be able to discuss the challenges from their perspective and share ideas about what is working and what could work better. Then, together with the young person and parents, we will discuss a treatment plan where the therapist will share ideas and options, and a plan will be established.
